Decide which desperate refugees to let through the gate, weighing mercy against consequence.
The brutal frost of the north has besieged the village of Granhult. As blizzards close the roads, the last survivors — refugees, merchants, spies and fugitives — gather at the village's heavy wooden gate.
You are Granhult's Gatekeeper. Only you decide who is let in and who is left in the freezing cold. But remember: every mercy has a price, every suspicion has a consequence.
STRANGERS AT THE GATE
Merchants, wounded soldiers, suspicious travelers, starving villagers... Examine their papers and seals, weigh the stories they tell and try to sense their intentions. Who is a friend, who is a spy for the throne or a dangerous bandit?
THE BLACK DEATH AND THE THREAT OF PLAGUE
Something deadlier than the cold waits at the gate: the Black Death. Study the faces, coughs and symptoms of the refugees. Letting in one infected person can condemn the whole village to quarantine and a mass grave. Can you tell the healthy from the sick?
PROTECT YOUR RESOURCES AND THE BALANCE
The village's supplies are limited and the woodsheds are almost empty. Every mouth you let in needs a bowl of hot soup; every skilled craftsman you turn away may be a lost opportunity. Keep the delicate balance between Food, Warmth, Security and Public Morale.
EVENING EVENTS AND THE VILLAGE COUNCIL
When the sun sets the gate closes, but the danger does not end. Face mysterious fires, thefts, outbreaks of disease and the political quarrels of the council members at night. Your decisions will shape the fate of the village and the people's loyalty to you.
